Employment in the NetherlandsIn accordance with the Employment of Foreign Workers Act, an employer cannot employ a foreigner without an employment permit from the Central Employment Board.
The employer must first attempt to fill a vacancy from the pool of job applicants immediately available in the Netherlands or, subsequently, from other member states of the European Union.
Only after these two applicant pools are exhausted can subjects from other countries be considered for an employment permit.
Such a permit, which has to be requested from one of the Regional Employment Offices, can be sought only after a residence permit application ("verzoek tot verblijf") has been submitted to one of the alien police departments in The Netherlands.
Prior to this an application for a temporary stay permit (MVV) has to be submitted to the Embassy in person.
Please note that the Embassy cannot provide assistance in matters relating to employment, such as providing addresses of prospective employers, labour conditions and so on.
